Hope is powerful. It is also one of the reasons people remain in incompatible relationships far longer than they intended.
You may believe someone will eventually become ready for commitment. You may hope they will communicate differently, prioritize the relationship, change their lifestyle, or develop the emotional maturity the relationship needs. Sometimes people do change. But meaningful change happens because they choose it—not because another person waits long enough.
At Sacred Amour, we encourage singles to evaluate relationships based on what is true now. If nothing about this person changed, would this relationship still work for you? That question can be uncomfortable, but it is incredibly clarifying.
Loving someone and being compatible with them are not always the same thing. You can see someone’s good qualities, understand their history, and genuinely care about them while still recognizing that they cannot give you the relationship you want. Waiting indefinitely often turns love into an investment strategy: you have already given so much time that leaving feels like losing everything.
But more time does not automatically create compatibility. The right partner will certainly continue growing throughout life, as you will. You simply should not need a completely different version of them before your relationship can succeed. Choose the person who exists. Not the person you keep hoping will eventually arrive.
